Finance minister Enoch Godongwana tabled his maiden medium-term budget policy statement (MTBPS) on Thursday (11 November), reporting better than expected finances for South Africa – but against the bleak reality that the country has little room to manoeuvre in the budget. We speak to Hugo Pienaar, Chief Economist at Bureau for Economic Research (BER), and Isiaah Mhlanga, Alexander-Forbes’ chief economist to help summarise the medium-term budget.
