The family of a slain police officer killed while on duty in Pretoria has expressed shock that his killer’s conviction and sentence have been overturned by the Constitutional Court.
Const Kenneth Sithole was fatally stabbed in Sunnyside in Pretoria while taking part in a police operation that aimed to free the crime-ridden streets of the capital’s flatland of criminal activities in 2018.
Liqhayiya Tuta, a law student at the University of SA, stabbed Sithole and his colleague Lawrence Magalefa, believing they were criminals out to rob him. He convinced the highest court in the land to overturn his murder conviction and life sentence on Friday.
Sithole’s mother, Lyza Sithole, 59, who lives in Monsterlus in Limpopo, said she feels failed by the criminal and justice system which her son served with distinction.
