In the fast-changing world of work and with South Africa’s high unemployment rates, many graduates (and their parents) are questioning the value of academic qualifications. Even the Bachelor of Commerce degree (BCom), previously considered the most sure-fire way to secure a job in business or finance, has come under the spotlight. However, Dr Antje Hargarter, Head of STADIO School of Commerce, believes that commerce qualifications are still relevant and valuable – if they include both practical and theoretical elements and are updated regularly.
