During last week's Budget Speech 2023, the Finance Minister announced that a further R3 billion had been allocated for the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies to fast-tracking the connection of almost 6 million sites to high-speed internet by 2025/26, underpinning the President's promise at his recent State of the Nation Address to bring the country closer to affordable, high-quality internet access, while simultaneously bringing down the cost of data in SA - long regarded as being inordinately high, especially when compared to other developing countries.

The announcement is just one of many moves that are currently setting the stage for a louder BOOM in video on demand (VOD) services such as Netflix, Showmax and Viu, facilitating a more accessible and seamless streaming experience.
