The Epic Western Province & Stormers Career of Corne Krige

Loading player...
In this fascinating discussion about his memorable Western Province & Stormers career, legendary flank and captain, Corne Krige opens up on his memorable time at Newlands and how he helped his beloved Province lift the Currie Cup. Corne recalls starting out as a youngster winning the Currie Cup for the first time under Harry Viljoen before a devastating knee injury stopped him in his tracks. He recovered to play in the following year’s Currie Cup final – a defeat to the Blue Bulls, before playing a stellar role in the rebranded Stormers – the Men In Black, who reached the 1999 Super 12 semi-finals before controversy struck on the morning of their defeat to the Highlanders. Krige talks fondly of how he experienced different coaches; Alan Zondagh, Alan Solomons, Gert Smal and Viljoen as well as sharing some funny moments involving Robbie Fleck and his bachelor's party on the eve of the 2000 Currie Cup final. And of course, Corne discusses that 2000 victory as well as the team going back-to-back by defeating the Sharks again a year later to win the famous trophy yet again. Krige discusses all of these topics candidly in this memorable episode of Front Row Rugby.
