GUEST - Nathen Bowers, CWU National Bargaining Co-ordinator

On 24 April 2024 the SAPO Business Rescue team and labour unions at the SA Post Office jointly applied to the Single Adjudication Committee to seek TERS relief funding for the bargaining unit staff. An agreement with unions to withdraw retrenchment notices, saving roughly 4,700 jobs at the struggling state entity—for at least 12 months.

The application was done as part of a last attempt alternative to reskill and equip these employees for the market place, unfortunetely that application was not successful meaning that all employees who had received retrenchment letters should continue with their exit process through their local Human Resources representatives.
