#FirstThingsFirst - Dangers of private security taking over SAPS duties

Gautrain workers affiliated to the National Union of Metal Workers SA (NUMSA) took to Gautrain operation sites yesterday to strike over various issues, including increase in medical aid, housing allowances and bonuses. Security personnel contracted to Gautrain arrived in vehicles and with a water cannon. Police and guards then ordered the strikers to stop protesting outside the main gate, subsequently using the water cannon when the strikers continued. The team deliberated on the dangers of private security taking over duties of the state.
