Many women and girls worldwide, including in South Africa, face hardships accessing menstrual sanitary products. This lack leads to discomfort, embarrassment, and missed school days due to inadequate hygiene facilities, further stigmatizing periods. Period poverty impacts education and exacerbates poverty among women and girls.
Since 2015, The Dis-Chem Foundation's "A Million Comforts" initiative has aimed to provide sanitary pads to teenage girls in need. This campaign empowers schoolgirls, raises awareness about women's health, and ensures they can continue their education without the burden of hygiene risks. Now in its 9th year, the initiative continues to grow, expanding its distribution outreach nationwide to support girls in less fortunate communities.
