The Speaker of Council, Cllr Nobuhle Mthembu, led the first City of
Johannesburg Integrated Development Plan (IDP) session at the Roodepoort
City Hall in Region C on Saturday, 29 March 2025.
The session marked the beginning of a critical engagement process aimed at ensuring that the City’s development plans align with the needs and priorities of its residents.
Residents of Region C turned out in large numbers and actively participated
in discussions with City officials and municipal entities on key service delivery
issues, infrastructure development, and future plans for their communities.
The robust engagement demonstrated the community’s eagerness to be part
of decision-making processes that directly affect their lives. IDP sessions serve as a vital platform for residents to hold the municipality accountable for service delivery while contributing to shaping the City’s development trajectory.
Through these sessions, the City reinforces its commitment to transparency,
good governance, and participatory democracy. Speaking at the session, Cllr Mthembu emphasised the importance of these engagements in fostering a culture of collaboration between the City and its residents. “As the legislature, we create such platforms as the IDP to make sure that the voices of our communities are heard and reflected in our service delivery plans. I commend residents of Region C for coming out in their numbers to participate in these robust discussions,” said the Speaker. “I would also like encourage all Johannesburg communities to take part in this critical process as it moves across all regions.”
The Office of the Speaker and the entire legislature remains committed to
strengthening public participation and working hand in hand with residents to build a more inclusive and service-oriented City of Johannesburg. Further IDP sessions will be held across all regions to ensure that every community has an opportunity to contribute to the City’s long-term development agenda. Residents are also encouraged to make some of their submissions on the draft IDP online by using the following link IDP 2025/26 Review | City of Johannesburg.
