IN CONVERSATION WITH AMANDA QITHI | ESKOM GAUTENG SPOKESPERSON

--:--
As winter approaches, Eskom in Gauteng officially launched its Winter Safety Campaign in Ivory Park to raise awareness about the safe and efficient use of electricity. Each winter, we face a surge in transformer overloads and failures, often due to illegal connections, meter tampering, and unauthorized operations on our network.
These actions not only cause extended power outages but also put innocent lives, especially those of children, and property at risk.
Through this campaign, Eskom is:
• Promoting the safe use of electricity.
• Educating the customers on energy efficiency.
• Sharing information on applying for electricity upgrades.
• Explaining the recent tariff increases that were effective from 1 April 2025.
• Encouraging community involvement in protecting infrastructure. We were joined by key stakeholders from the Gauteng Legislature, South African Police Service (SAPS), local media and councilors who also addressed the community on safety, crime prevention and the role that each stakeholder plays in the community Eskom is committed to building a strong partnership with our customers to safeguard our electrical infrastructure and ensure a reliable power supply for all.
