For days, communities across Coronationville, Westbury, Sophiatown, and Newclare have been grappling with crippling water shortages - unable to cook, clean, bathe, or wash. By early September, their frustration boiled over. Protests on the 10th and 11th saw roads blocked, tyres burnt, and clashes with police, a stark reflection of desperation in communities brought to the brink. In a conversation with Phemelo, Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero responds to the crisis, assuring residents that help is on the way. He confirmed R800 million has been set aside to fix the city's deteriorating water infrastructure and pledged the immediate rollout of 15 water tankers to provide short-term relief.
