No-confidence motion filed against Joburg Mayor Dada Morero?

A motion of no confidence has been filed against Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero - and interestingly, it’s coming from within the ANC-led coalition itself. The Minority Governing Parties (MGP), made up of smaller coalition partners like the UDM, Al Jama-ah, the African Independent Congress and the African Heart Congress, say this move isn’t a strike against the ANC, but rather a call to restore accountability and proper governance in the city. MGP secretary Yongama Zigebe says the decision follows what they call ongoing governance failures, political interference, and administrative capture in the City of Joburg. At the centre of the tension is the appointment of a new municipal manager, and reports suggest growing frustration among coalition partners over alleged interference by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula. Phemelo unpacks the story with ANC Johannesburg spokesperson Masilo Serekele and UDM councillor Yongama Zigebe.
