Madlanga Commission Wrap: Julius Mkhwanazi & Senzo Mchunu

Suspended EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi insists payments from tender boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala were not bribes despite claims he helped illegally kit out Matlala’s private cars with blue lights normally reserved for law-enforcement. The drama stems from a 2021 MOU that saw Matlala offer four vehicles to the EMPD, an agreement later scrapped but the cars still ended up registered to the City of Ekurhuleni. Meanwhile, suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu admitted he shut down the SAPS Political Killings Task Team without consulting top brass including the national commissioner a move he struggled to justify under tough questioning at the Madlanga Commission. Katleho Sekhotho is joined by Kaya News Reporter Karinda Jagmohan who brings a full wrap of their testimony.
