Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has confirmed a contained, localised breach in the 2025 National Senior Certificate exams and says the system worked exactly as it should. Markers picked up irregularities in six English Home Language Paper 2 scripts, prompting an investigation after Gauteng officials first flagged suspicious similarities to the marking guideline on 2 December. Twenty-six learners were interviewed, and several admitted to accessing the question paper and marking guideline before the exam. Ministerial spokesperson Lukhanyo Vangqa joined Phemelo to explain how the breach was caught and what the department is doing to protect the integrity of the NSC.
