Safe Study South Africa is a Johannesburg-based non-profit organisation
providing educational enrichment and creative development programmes for
children from marginalised communities. Founded in 2020 during the COVID-19
pandemic, the initiative was established in response to the learning disruptions
faced by young people with limited access to formal schooling and academic
support.
The organisation focuses on creating safe, structured learning environments
that complement the formal education system. Safe Study works primarily with
children between the ages of six and sixteen, offering academic assistance
alongside creative arts, life skills, and wellness programmes aimed at holistic
development.
Speaking about the organisation, Safe Study representatives highlight the
impact of the aftercare facility located behind Victoria Yards in Lorentzville,
Johannesburg. The centre serves as a safe learning space where children
receive daily academic support, mentorship, and creative enrichment after
school hours.

In a significant milestone for the organisation, six learners from Safe Study have
been sponsored to attend the Maharishi Invincibility Institute’s High School this
year. The development marks a major achievement for both the learners and
the programme, reflecting the organisation’s focus on long-term educational
outcomes and access to quality schooling opportunities.
Safe Study’s programmes are structured into goal-orientated learning cycles,
typically running over a three-month period. During these cycles, learners
participate in academic support sessions, creative arts activities, environmental
education, entrepreneurship training, and wellness practices such as
mindfulness and meditation. The organisation also offers chess programmes
designed to improve concentration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Children’s progress is assessed at the end of each programme cycle through
exhibitions, performances, and practical showcases where learners present
their work to the community. In some cases, learners are given opportunities to
sell products they have created, introducing them to basic entrepreneurial
skills.
Safe Study operates from a permanent learning space at Victoria Yards, working
closely with community partners and creative hubs to expose learners to
broader cultural, educational, and economic opportunities. The organisation
also runs a podcast platform aimed at amplifying children’s voices and
encouraging confidence and leadership among young participants.
Safe Study South Africa continues to rely on partnerships, donations, and
volunteer support to sustain its work. The organisation says its long-term goal is
to help bridge educational gaps while empowering young people with the skills,
confidence, and opportunities needed to succeed beyond the classroom.
