Caesar Balona is a qualified actuary and Fellow of the
Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA), working at the
forefront of modernising risk management through the
strategic application of data science, AI and engineering.
He currently works at Old Mutual Insure, where he is
building an industry-leading climate and catastrophe
modelling platform and serves as Head of the Actuarial
Function for one of its subsidiaries. Curious by nature, he
is passionate about learning and about rethinking the
actuarial toolkit for a rapidly changing world. His
publications include work on large language models,
machine learning in actuarial practice, and modern
approaches to insurance risk.
