Sustained high oil price puts pressure on US and SA monetary authorities

US CPI in April rose 3.8% y/y – and this does not yet fully reflect the increase in gasoline prices. In the short term, though, US interest rates are expected to be held, with the risk of a hike if the oil price remains above $100/barrel.
