Apparently, South Africa could be on the edge of a major shift in how people are hired, paid, and even how they negotiate their salaries. It’s called the Fair Pay Bill, and at its core, it’s trying to change one powerful habit in the job market — employers asking what you earned before, and using that to decide what you’ll earn next. Under the proposed law, companies would no longer be allowed to ask for your salary history, or use it to set your pay. So your past salary stops following you like a shadow. Instead, employers would have to set and disclose salary ranges upfront — before hiring, promoting, or transferring staff.
