Bridging the Skills Gap: Why Industry Partnerships Matter

One of the biggest concerns facing South Africa is the gap between education and employment. While thousands of young people graduate every year, many still struggle to find opportunities because employers say graduates often lack the practical skills needed in the workplace.

Gert Sibande TVET College is hoping to help bridge that gap through stronger partnerships with government, municipalities and the private sector. On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, the college, together with the Gert Sibande District Municipality and mining companies in the region, held a Business Breakfast at its Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre in Standerton. The aim is to strengthen collaboration that produces industry-ready graduates while creating more workplace opportunities for students.
