Loading player...
The conversation around menstrual leave in South Africa is moving beyond questions about period products and period poverty and towards a broader debate about health, dignity and the rights of people who experience debilitating menstrual symptoms.
The issue has gained renewed attention through discussions around the proposed Menstrual Health Rights Bill, with activists calling for menstrual health to be recognised as a fundamental right and for workplaces to provide appropriate support to people whose menstrual-related conditions affect their ability to work.
One of the voices in this conversation is Bontle Moka, an endometriosis advocate and founder of the Heal Endo Movement. Moka has been campaigning for greater recognition of endometriosis and other menstrual disorders and has called for menstrual leave and improved access to care.
