Kelly Green on The Jazz Standard with Brenda Sisane

Loading player...
A pianist can tell you a lot about a song before they say a word. But when that pianist is also the vocalist, composer and arranger, the conversation gets even more interesting. Kelly Green is a Steinway Artist, a New York-based pianist, vocalist, composer and bandleader whose work brings high-energy swing, lyrical ballads, original material and reimagined repertoire into the same vivid frame. She studied with Bunky Green and Lynne Arriale as an undergraduate, then found vital mentors in Harold Mabern and Mulgrew Miller at William Paterson University.

Her new album is titled Eat Your Greens. Yes, it is good advice — but in Kelly Green’s hands it is also a musical philosophy about growth, patience, learning and keeping your artistic appetite alive.
