Fresh and Thato spoke to Buhlebenkosi Mbatha, the founder of Incoso Goat Meat on the story of how a University of Pretoria publishing and marketing graduate with no farming background, he bought five goats in Ulundi in 2018 while unemployed. Today he coordinates the whole value chain: he buys from farmers through the Qhakaza Goat Farmers Association, has the animals slaughtered to his specifications, and does the cutting and signature packaging himself. Incoso supplies Food Lover’s Market and Jackson’s Real Food Market stores, hotels, chefs and butcheries, and has secured an export deal for Dubai.
