US First Lady Melania Trump is calling for the temporary ceasefire in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky to become a starting point for lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine. Speaking at the White House, where she hosted Russian and Ukrainian representatives, Trump said the six-day truce showed what cooperation between the two sides could achieve. The ceasefire, which ran from October 27 to November 1, allowed humanitarian supplies to reach the Russian-occupied city in the Kherson region and enabled nearly 800 people to evacuate. Trump says the protection of civilians must rise above the divisions of war.
