‘People are very unhappy in the workplace’ – We Are Still Human [Part 2]

The vast majority of people report being unhappy in their respective workspaces. This is according to the co-author of ‘We Are Still Human’ Brad Shorkend, who sat down with the Business Hour to discuss his and Andy Golding’s much awaited book, which developed from their years long research on the subject matter. The duo aren’t just co-authors but are also business partners, running the consultancy ‘Still Human’ which aims to do transform workplaces for the better via education. The book is also the first of three books that Andy and Brad plan to release on the subject. Shorkend shares that the current way in which we measure work performance is one of a handful of outdated and unhelpful orthodoxies that exist in companies. He says performance should not be measured by time spent on work, but rather on the impact made. Another is employers need to be more “caring”, this will encourage employees to give of themselves to the work/job at hand and not just do the bare minimum.
