The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of telecommunications company, Ignition Group, Valde Ferradaz says he doesn’t believe that spectrum was always a part of government’s economic agenda from the beginning. Ferradaz said this in his interview on the Business Hour, in which he revealed that telecommunications companies have been pleading with government to come to the table regarding spectrum allocation for more than ten years, a clear indicator that the issue over high data costs isn’t one that began recently. He reveals the country’s telecommunications companies “refarmed spectrum” over the years to continue connecting South Africans to the internet, despite the fact that the situation – from the state’s side – was not being well managed.
