Mnombo Zwelendaba - Griquas Player of the Year for 2025

The Currie Cup champions, the Suzuki Griquas, capped off their outstanding 2025 season on Thursday evening with a glitzy awards ceremony at the Horseshoe Inn in Kimberley. It was a night dedicated to honouring the players whose exceptional performances carried the team to two finals and a historic major title.
Powerful outside centre Mnombo Zwelendaba was the big winner on the night, walking away with two major accolades. The humble midfielder was crowned Griquas Backline Player of the Year and, in the main moment of the evening, Griquas Player of the Year. This is no small feat considering the Peacock Blues boast some of the most dangerous outside backs in domestic rugby, including Cameron Hufke, Dylan Maart and the electric Gurswin Wehr - and to do it in the same year they won the Currie Cup is special indeed.
Speaking to OFM Sport, Zwelendaba admitted he did not expect the recognition, insisting that the team’s success has been a collective effort.
