Calvin’s Legacy Today
On this Memorable Monday with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church, we conclude our seven-week journey through the life, ministry, and influence of John Calvin. Throughout this series, we have sought an honest, Scripture-first evaluation — neither vilifying Calvin nor placing him on a pedestal. Today’s episode examines Calvin’s legacy: the lasting blessings he brought to preaching, education, church life, and the recovery of biblical literacy; and also the dangers that developed when later generations elevated philosophical grids above the text itself. We trace how Calvin’s emphasis on Scripture shaped Reformed and Presbyterian traditions, encouraged widespread education, and influenced broader society. At the same time, we look carefully at the rise of theistic determinism — a system shaped more by Greek philosophical categories than Hebrew Scripture — and how this lens can flatten the biblical tension between God’s sovereignty and mankind’s real responsibility. This episode calls us back to the Scriptures themselves, urging believers to search the Word daily (Acts 17:11), to “cut straight” the truth (2 Timothy 2:15), and to hold mystery with humility where God has not chosen to explain further (Deuteronomy 29:29). Calvin’s strengths and weaknesses remind us that systems do not save — Christ does, and His Word must remain our final authority. #MemorableMonday #ChurchHistory #JohnCalvin #BiblicalTruth #ScriptureFirst #LetsTalkRadio #Reformation #SovereigntyAndResponsibility #GospelFocus #BibleTeaching #ChristianPodcast
