IN CONVERSATION WITH POLITICAL ANALYST OTSILE NKADIMENG

President Cyril Ramaphosa's voter registration campaign in Madibeng took an unexpected turn after Princess Itumeleng Moerane refused him entry into the Bapo-Ba-Mogale Royal House.

The Princess says the community has been without a recognised king for several years because a long-running succession dispute has not been resolved. She claims a Commission of Inquiry investigated the matter and made recommendations, but says the Presidency has not provided a way forward. As a result, she argues, the Bapo people have been left without recognised leadership.

The Princess also alleges that the leadership vacuum has affected how the community's platinum-rich mineral resources are managed, creating opportunities for corruption. These allegations have not been proven in court or confirmed by the Presidency.
