Cosatu in the Free State has filed an intention to protest against the De Beers bypass development, near Harrismith in the eastern Free State.

Cosatu provincial secretary Monyatso Mahlatsi says more than 2 000 jobs could be lost in an area where the unemployment rate is already at 41 percent.

The De Beers bypass will take N3 traffic away from Free State towns such as Warden, Harrismith and the shopping hub Swinburne and Montrose.

Mahlatsi says the matter is now in the hands of NEDLAC.
