Agri SA: Expropriation Bill development should be monitored

Agri SA says it will have to monitor developments around the expropriation bill very carefully going forward as this could open the door for other problematic legislation to be introduced. This after Parliament’s select committee on economic and business development last week approved the bill with only minor changes. Agri SA’s Parliamentary Liaison Annelize Crosby says they are concerned over the way the term expropriation has been defined.
She adds, however, that it should not be described as the end of the willing seller willing buyer policy as that never really existed in the first place:
Crosby says the Bill now goes back to the National Council of Provinces for debate before going to the President to be signed into law. She says the big worry is the possibility of future legislation that may come into being where land can be taken without compensation.
