OFM News agri editor Sabrina Dean spoke to the veterinary liaison of the SA Pork Producers Organisation, Dr Peter Evans, late last week about the situation with swine fever outbreaks in Free state and North West. Evans says the outbreak in North West seems to have been contained. He says new cases in Free state seem to have come from an initial outbreak in Koffiefontein, adding that the Bloemfontein/Botshabelo area is now also under quarantine. He also speaks about the disease, which he says can only infect pigs or warthogs. He says it is not dangerous to humans.
