Eskom meter scam in NC & FS

Loading player...
Eskom warns customers to be aware of a meter scam where people demand money to test and replace faulty meters in the Free State and Northern Cape. This follows after the power supplier received numerous reports of customers who had been defrauded of up to R2500 since December last year. The scammers’ modus operandi would be to call Eskom customers and tell them that they will be visiting to test meters, demanding that customers deposit an up-front payment into a bank account only to disappear thereafter. According to Eskom’s Stefanie Jansen van Rensburg, payments for services must always be made directly to Eskom and never a contractor. - Nomaqhawe Mtebele/OFM News
